Linux Distributions
I recently had a desire to buy an Apple iBook, but due to my financial situation at the moment was forced to reconsider my options. After speaking to a friend who has adopted an iBook as if it were his obediant puppy, I had decided to look into FreeBSD on his recommendation.
I was fairly sold on FreeBSD, and decided to get hold of a copy and install it on my laptop. At least then I could get hold of an O/S with a Unix core and begin to learn how to live without Microsoft! Unfortunately I found myself in the same predicament that I started with. Getting hold of a copy of FreeBSD would have cost me more money than I fancy spending at the moment. It's not expensive (infact it's free if you can d/l it) but I also would have required the manual/handbook and this confused money matters.
Anyway, I contacted a Linux fan that I used to work with and he suggested Fedora Core 2. I have now got hold of a copy of this (for about £3.50) and am at present installing it onto my laptop!
Here's hoping everything goes okay!

Hahaha, I thought I was reading Craig, and after the first paragraph I was all ready to start evangelising and preaching, then I noticed at the end it was you, hahaha. BTW, books aren't that much use for the open operating systems, in nearly every case.. the free documentation (or which comes with the system) is a lot better (okay, not as fun to read as a book, of course) -- PC
